The Adventure / L’Aventure
Watershed is a story starting from a muddy, local adventure with a man and his dog. In 2001 the adventure began from behind our home in Chelsea, Quebec, Canada. We (my dog and I) set out one afternoon to follow the ‘little creek’ that runs behind our house. The collection covers large parts of Gatineau Park and Chelsea, Quebec.

Watershed est une histoire qui a commencé par une aventure locale et boueuse, avec un homme et son chien. En 2001, l’aventure a commencé derrière notre maison à Chelsea, Québec, Canada. Nous sommes partis un après-midi, pour suivre le « petit ruisseau » qui se trouve derrière notre maison.

Over many years we followed the little creek from the top of the watershed, through residential areas, under highways and roads, through a village and federally protected parklands covering approximately 20 kilometres of the watershed. I discovered breathtaking beauty alongside industrial debris, massive engineering feats, destruction, and wildlife.

Partway through the wet, messy fun I recognized the photographic potential of the story of the watershed. It’s the story of the cumulative power of little trickles of water and how they affect everything that surrounds us.

Plus tôt cette année, nous avons commencé notre exposition de photos des bassins versants qui suit, en partie, le bassin versant du ruisseau Chelsea à partir des sources dans le parc de la Gatineau et serpente à travers les secteurs résidentiels, les infrastructures publiques et à nouveau à travers le parc de la Gatineau. Le ruisseau coule à proximité du Lac Meech, derrière le centre visiteur de la CCN, à travers le village Old Chelsea, sous l’autoroute 5, puis remonte par les résidences de Chelsea et par le parc de la Gatineau via le chemin Notch.

Le projet a pris 15 ans à ce jour.

The Water / L’eau

The creek refuses containment and consistency. On the journey I found ever changing beauty, carcasses of decaying cars and extensive feats (and wrecks) of bulldozed infrastructure – all around the same water flow.

The waterway crosses jurisdictions with a disregard for policy, best intentions and human engineering. The creek respects no boundaries imposed by levels of government or parks. The watershed feeds the whole world as a body’s circulatory system spreads life or illness throughout a human body. The Watershed project illustrates that everything is connected, for better or for worse.

 

La photographie est une oeuvre signifiante pour la municipalité et région car elle documente l’un des cours d’eau les plus importants dans la municipalité et démontre la relation entre l’environnement et les infrastructures municipales.

Le travail est une vitrine importante en tant que référence historique, environnementale et pratique sur l’infrastructure naturelle qui affecte les résidents et les visiteurs. Le travail est disponible pour achat.
