    Here are few other ideas:
    • a magazine subscription: UK mag “Practical Photography” has tons of assignments for beginners and advanced students, and professional commentaries on photos submitted by subscribers etc. Much less tech oriented than most photo mags – more about the creative part.
    • Photos printed and framed. That was a big hit!
    • For a painter friend, I bought a good quality point and shoot with a manual setting. Was intended for him to take pictures of his paintings to show galleries etc, but he’s now exhibiting the photos he’s taking with his little camera.”
