#835 Thank-you!
A big thank-you to everyone who came to see and learn from the Watershed exhibit in Chelsea this weekend. We had visitors from the municipality of Chelsea, Hendrick Farm, Orleans photo club, Club Polarisé, photo students, neighbours and art buyers. People came from far away to see the largest showing of Watershed work to date.
Thanks to Becky and Reid and Susan for helping us take the show down at the end of the weekend before the rain came!
We will be showing the work by appointment at our photo studio within a week and will be announcing a show at a gallery soon for the fall. Interested in seeing the work? Let us know by email.
We will also be showing the work of Lou Truss at the studio in September – stay tuned for an announcement soon!
#829 Back from away…
We took some R&R last week at a B&B in the Laurentians – no camera (ie no photos), just charging the batteries.
Here’s what’s coming up this week:
• We will announce a new seminar in our Creative Business Seminar Series.
• A social with the ProProgram students.
• Our Online Photo Program members get their monthly photo challenge after exploring last week’s exploratory lesson. See last month’s online photo successes.
• Preparing for the Watershed Exhibit in Chelsea – very close to the watershed itself!
Stay tuned – lots of fun coming!
#824 Art Exhibition – Watershed in Chelsea
We have talked about Watershed before. It’s a photo project that follows a watershed from the headwaters of Gatineau Park towards the Gatineau River, Ottawa River and the ocean. Over 11 years we have followed the trickle from over a 10 km stretch documenting its path.
The exhibition has been seen in different venues but we are bringing it to Chelsea, a mere 73 metres from the actual Watershed route.
Please join us in Chelsea as we bring Watershed home.
Details:
Friday, August 17th; noon-5pm
Vendredi, le 17 août ; de midi à 17 heures
Saturday, August 18th; 10-5pm
Samedi, le 18 août, de 10 heures à 17 heures

#800 Watershed Exhibition – New Art Festival
On the weekend we offered our largest showing of Watershed to date. We had a booth at the New Art Festival – many people braved the rain over the weekend to see Watershed and the work of many fine artists.
Thanks to everyone for visiting us – we will be showing Watershed (and the medium, large and panoramic formats that captured the work) at venues later this year. Stay tuned!
And stay tuned for the Music Photography Exhibition featuring six fine photographers at Ottawa Studio Works on June 16th.
Thanks to all that helped and Dave Andrews for the photo below!
#753 Watershed Art Exhibit
In December we offered a Sneak Peek at our photo studio of an art exhibit that is nearly complete. ‘Watershed’ is project that started 11 years ago as my dog and I wandered, wondering where our local creek went.
Over many years the project grew from a sense of adventurous exploration into the realization that I had the basis for an art exhibit.
As the muddy adventure developed into a collection of artwork my cameras soaked up ever changing beauty, debris of human existence and extensive feats (and wrecks) of bulldozed infrastructure.
“Watershed” weaves eight kilometres from its headwaters in Gatineau Park through a divided highway’s tunnel. My self imposed rules were simple:
1. To follow the watershed and see every bend, turn and obstacle.
2. To return with cameras – predominantly medium, large and panoramic format film cameras – to selectively document different aspects of the watershed.
Watershed was shot predominantly on large film to allow BIG, fine prints.
“Watershed” illustrates the power of an innocuous trickle and the connected nature of the lifeline that provides life to all surrounding it. I was continually surprised to see where the “little creek” behind our home brought me – to the local village, highway and some favourite locations in Gatineau Park.
Stay tuned for more Watershed news…
#729 2011 in review – excerpts from the blog
The 2011 photo blog review continues…
In May, David Trattles came to Ottawa to run his unique photo workshop and exhibit his fine art photography at our photo studio. The exhibit was a smash hit. The David Trattles workshops (coming again this May) have always been popular with people interested in stretching their photo limits.
In June we shot some Jazz Festival for a client, hosted J David Andrews’ Wildlife and Landscape Workshop (see his upcoming workshops) and wrote about better backgrounds.
We shot at Bluesfest for the Sun and also exhibited a decade’s worth of music festival photography at the studio. Also ran a popular bike race safari.
In August we shot a stock assignment for a lawyer and a school – it’s my favourite kind of commercial work – shooting a creative portfolio of work that a client uses for promotion. At the photo studio Blair Gable exhibits his photojournalistic work including his photos of Obama, Princess Kate and $millions of Ferraris.
