#298 Workshop update

Our most popular photography workshop is Creative Fundamentals – we teach the course in the spring and fall as well as throughout the year as a Custom Course.

Currently, only two spots remain. It’s popular because it covers the fundamentals of photography that many advanced amateurs never properly learn.

Creative Fundamentals

We cover the essentials of exposure in a way that will allow you to create better results in tricky lighting scenarios. While auto exposure modes will give reasonable success in simple scenarios about 80% of the time, learning the finer details of proper exposure will elevate your photography to new levels.

Read the next issue of the “Exposed!” photo newsletter for more information on advanced exposure techniques. Subscribe to “Exposed!” in the upper right hand corner of this pag.

We also learn about effective focusing, depth of field, elements of composition to give you a solid base from which to grow photographically.

It’s popular – just see what past students say.

We are looking at bringing in some guest instructors this fall and winter – details coming soon. Check our other workshops for summer and fall fun.

#288 More student race photos

Ok… this is the last set, it seems, of student photos from our sport sessions photo workshop based around motion and bike racing at Ottawa’s NRC training race hosted by Ross Knight.

Students have progressed nicely. We have our critique session this week. See more photos below.

Missed this workshop? Consider the next Sport photo Workshop in August or Creative Fundamentals in September.

Thanks to the participants!

#280 Sport Sessions

Last week we started the Sport Sessions Photo Workshop where students learn to shoot events, sports and motion. This kind of work makes me tingle – it’s where I got my start in photography.

Photos are included featuring students in action covering the first session – a bike race. Last night was session two – students learned some advanced motion techniques – see “Mastering advanced motion techniques“.

Next week is the third shooting session – students undertake an assignment at another bike race.

#278 Student Success!

Last week we finished the critique session of the Urban Landscapes Photo Workshop in Ottawa, Canada.

Students progressed over the course as we travelled to different locations for new challenges.

While exploring the strong lighting challenges in this underground wonderland Prasad pushed his limits capturing some dynamic action with some dynamic lighting:

Nice work Prasad!

#276 More National Team Trials

Covering the whitewater slalom National Team Trials and teaching the Urban Landscapes Photo Workshop made for a full few days. I called on a Pro Program student to shadow and shoot over the three days of competition.

Scott stepped right in and delivered some good work. We worked and talked and he learned lots in the process.

He commented: “Thanks for the (business) insight Harry. Much appreciated.  This is definitely a beneficial part of your pro course, and in terms of trying to break into the business, probably the most important.

#271 Student Successes – race photos

Yesterday, I posted photos from National Capital Race Weekend. I also heard from recent past students, Kim and Nathalie, who have put their photo workshop skills to work.

Kim took a spring session of Creative Fundamentals. The course includes the skills appropriate to capture well exposed, well composed sports shots. Kim also has family and friends who are experienced racers.

Nathalie has just started our Professional Program and is keen to learn all about event, sport and race photography as her family and friends are avid triathletes, cyclists and runners. She plans to start a business shooting what she loves and is enrolled in the Sport Sessions Photo Workshop in June.
